Southwest of Banff and north east of Radium, the the 8 km Simpson River Ski Trail is a gentle climb with some steeps leading to the Great Divide. Beyond the Divide, a trail leads down Surprise Creek to Rock Lake in the Mount Assiniboine Provicail Park. To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from Radium, head east on Hwy 93 for 58 km.

Overall, Simpson River Ski Trail is the 26th most popular cross country ski area of all 47 Nordic ski destinations in British Columbia. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Simpson River Ski Trail including Kootenay Crossing Ski Trail and Nipika Touring Center.
