Searchmont Cross Country Skiing

Northeast of Sault Ste Marie, the Searchmont area contains over 250 miles of marked trails (50km groomed) including Hiawatha Highlands, Old Goulais Bay Road, and Old Christina Mine Trail. The terrain is steep, rugged and heavily forested.

To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from Sault Ste Marie, head north on Highway 17 to Heyden. Turn east on Highway 556 for 27km.

There are also 30 km of tracks that wind through the wilderness of the Goulais River Forest and th High Plateau.

Overall, Searchmont is the 12th most popular cross country ski area of all 49 Nordic ski destinations in Ontario. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Searchmont including Stokely Creek Ski Touring, Wabos Wilderness, Hiawatha Highlands, Windy Lake Trail System and Windy Lake.
