Near West Guilford, the private 50,000 acres Haliburton Forest has over 300 km of backcountry trails with over 80 km groomed for nordic skiing. It is located just south of Algonquin Provincial Park. . Look out for moose, fox and black bear. Check out the Pass Trail, Lookout Trail and the Normac Trail. There is a $25 user fee.

To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from Toronto, follow Route 11 north to Route 118. Head east on Route 118 into West Guilford. Go north on CR7 toward Kennisis Lake for 15 km. The entrance is on the right.

Overall, Haliburton Forest is the 17th most popular cross country ski area of all 49 Nordic ski destinations in Ontario. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Haliburton Forest including Bracebridge Resource Management Centre Trails, Silent Lake Provincial Park, Porcupine Ridge, South Monck Trails, Mountain View Ski Area and Georgian Nordic Ski.
