North of Toronto and Barrie, the Hardwood Hills have become a mecca with 6 trails totalling 32 km groomed for both classical and skate skiing. The trails roll through hills of maple forests. The tracks are divided into three networks based on difficulty and there is a user fee.
To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead, follow Route 400 north to exit 111. Head east on Doran Road through Edgar. Continue east another 5 km and the entrance is on the left side of the road.
Overall, Hardwood Hills is the 3rd most popular cross country ski area of all 44 Nordic ski destinations in Ontario. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Hardwood Hills including Horseshoe Resort, Killarney Provincial Park, Awenda Provincial Park, Highlands Nordic, Scenic Caves Nordic Centre and Sauble Falls Provincial Park.
