Col de Puymorens to Orlu Cross Country Skiing

The 10th most popular XC Ski in France.

Near Ax-les-Thermes, the backcountry ski tour from Col du Puymorens to Portella dOrlu passes spectacular jagged peaks. Starting from the carpark at Col du Puymorens (1,920m), ski northwest up the Coma d en Garcia Valley which steepens at the end towards Portella (2,530m). Continue east and then northest gently up th eridge to Puig De Coma dOr. Drop off the east side for 250m and then traverse northeast beneath sister peak, Puig Pedros. Stay high as possible on the ridge leading to Portella dOrlu (2,480m). The col is a great descent into the Orlu Nature Reserve.

Past the reserve, a multi-day tour runs southeast over an undulating plateau to the Cerdagne and ends at Pic Carlit (2,921m). There are several huts along the way.

Overall, Col de Puymorens to Orlu is the 10th most popular cross country ski area of all 19 Nordic ski destinations in France.
