Northeast of Lillehammer, the Sjusjøen area has over 100km of groomed cross country ski trails. The nordic trails interconnect with the systems of Nordseter, Øyer, Hafjell, Lillehammer, Åstadalen, Rena and the Hamar region which means there are over 2,500km of trails to explore. The infamous Birkebeiner Trail also passes through Sjusjoen. Since there are two distinct ski arenas where international elite train and compete, Sjusjøen is known for its artificial snowmaking to ensure the nordic trails are ready.
Overall, Sjusjoen is the 2nd most popular cross country ski area of all 6 Nordic ski destinations in Norway.
