Southeast of Zurich, St Moritz is a real paradise for serious cross country skiers. There are over 100km of maintained groomed cross country ski tracks around the town plus another 250km along the Engadin valley. Some of the best nordic skiing is from the village of Pontresina heading south up to the Italian border near Diavoleza. There is a small railway running up the valley parallel to the groomed tracks along with several huttes providing meals and shelter.
To reach this area from Zurich, head southeast on Route A3 and then south on Route A13 to Chur. Turn south on road to St. Moritz for 70km.
Overall, St. Moritz is the 1st most popular cross country ski area of all 22 Nordic ski destinations in Switzerland.
