Near Aviemore and Glen More, the Cairngorms have plenty to offer for backcountry skiers with over 40 square kilometers of wilderness above 1000m. The Four Top Tour is a two-day backcountry ski tour of the four primary peaks in the Cairngorms: Cairn Gorm, Ben Macdui, Cairn Toul and Braeriach. This 33 km loop starts at the Coire Cas car park.

After ascending south to Cairn Gorm, descend southwest off 760m to the base of the cliffs (Lairig Ghru) before climbing Ben Macdui. From the summit, proceed southwest via the Tailors Burn gully dropping 650m. Continue south along the Dee to Corrour Bothy, a good stopping point.

Start climbing east up Coire Ohdar. Once on the plateau, follow the cliff edge north rising towards Cairn Toul and Braerich. Watch out for the cornice lip. Enjoy the spectacular panoramic vista from Braerich (1300m).

Proceed east off Braerich and then north down the Sron-na-Lairge ridge into Coire Gorm. Cross Lairig Ghru again and pass northeast through the narrow Chalamain Gap. Finish the last 2km briskly east reveling in the 2100m of total vertical behind.

Overall, Four Top Tour is the 6th most popular cross country ski area of all 9 Nordic ski destinations in UK.
