Southwest of Mammoth Lakes in the eastern Sierras, the Tamarack Cross-Country Ski Center is one of the more popular local areas with 45 km of tracks. At 9,000, the trails wind through forest and by lakes, and they are groomed for classical and skate skiing. Tamarack is located 2.5 miles up Lake Mary Road from the town of Mammoth Lakes, which is on SR395.

Overall, Tamarack Lodge Resort is the 8th most popular cross country ski area of all 38 Nordic ski destinations in California. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Tamarack Lodge Resort including Deadman Summit / Obsidian Dome, Rock Creek Lodge, Sierra Meadows, June Lake Junction, Knolls Trail and Red Cone TrailShadyrest Trail System.
