Near Steamboat Springs, the Steamboat Ski Touring Center maintains 15 km of groomed ski trails on Mount Werner. The trails wind over the Steamboat Golf Club course and through the scenic Fish Creek area.
Vista Verde Ranch has a 30km groomed system. High Meadows Ranch has 12km groomed. Home Ranch has a 40km groomed system with plenty of backcountry and telemark opportunities.
To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from the intersection of Hwy 40 and Hwy 129 in Steamboat Springs, go north on Hwy 129 (at the stoplight and 7-11.) Follow Hwy 129 north about 18 miles. Just past the town of Clark cross the Elk River and immediately turn right onto Seedhouse Road (CR 64.) Go about 5 miles to a sign on the left-hand side of the road. Take a left into the driveway. Follow the driveway about 1 mile to the main lodge at the ranch.
Overall, Vista Verde Ranch is the 31st most popular cross country ski area of all 51 Nordic ski destinations in Colorado. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Vista Verde Ranch including Rabbit Ears Pass, Buffalo Pass / Soda Mountain, Gore Pass Loop, Dunckley Pass Ski Trails, Steamboat Nordic Center and Lake Catamount Touring Center.
