South of Grangeville, the Fish Creek Meadows area has several stacked loops for skiing that are groomed weekly. The trails (35 km) provide outstanding vistas of the surrounding forest including Pilot Rock to the east, Buffalo Hump to the southeast, and the Gospel Mountains to the south. Make sure to ski the trails in a counterclockwise direction.
To reach the Fish Creek Meadows trailhead from Grangeville, head south on Grangeville-Salmon Road (FS221) for 8 miles. Parking is available at the NFS Fish Creek Campground.
To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from the intersection of SR 13 and Mount Idaho Rd. (NFD 221), go south on Mount Idaho Rd. for 7.5 miles. The road will change names to Salmon Road, and then Fish Creek Road. Park on the right.
An Idaho Park-N-Ski sticker is required.
Overall, Fish Creek Meadows is the 27th most popular cross country ski area of all 41 Nordic ski destinations in Idaho.
