In far western Massachusetts, the Berkshire Mountains have several great areas for cross-country skiing. Near the town of Washington, the October State Forest has plenty of backcountry skiing, along with 20 km of well-groomed trails around nearby Bucksteep Manor.

Overall, Bucksteep Manor is the 2nd most popular cross country ski area of all 21 Nordic ski destinations in Massachusetts. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Bucksteep Manor including Maple Corner Farm, Hickory Hill XC, Notchview Reservation, Butternut Cross Country, Beartown State Forest, Mount Graylock State Reservation, Canterbury Farm Ski Area and .
