Northeast of Greenfield near the town of Northfield, the Northfield Mountain Cross-Country Ski Area has 40 km of meticulously groomed skating and in-line tracks. After tracking up the mountain via snow-covered access roads, a great route down is on the Sidewinder Trail. This track traverses across the mountain through open hillside forest, and then dips into Told-Ya-So Pass through steep evergreens and glades. Expert skiers can try the 10th Mountain Trail which descends the full mountain over exciting terrain.

To reach the trailhead, follow US91 to Exit 28. Head east on SR10 for 5 miles. Just south of Northfield, proceed south on SR63 for five miles and watch for trailhead parking on the left.

Overall, Northfield Mountain Trail System is the 8th most popular cross country ski area of all 21 Nordic ski destinations in Massachusetts.
