On the Upper Peninsula west of Silver City, there are 26 miles of groomed track in the Porcupine Mountain State Park adjacent to the Ottowa National Forest. While 12 miles are designated expert, there are 4.5 miles for beginners and the rest is intermediate. There are also another 50 miles of backcountry trails through virgin forest. Check out the routes to Mirror Lake and the 16 mile Lake Superior Trail. Keep a sharp eye out for secluded lakes, bears, bald eagles, and waterfalls.

To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from Silver City, head west on FS107. Either park along road or in DNR parking area.

Overall, Mirror Lake is the 3rd most popular cross country ski area of all 47 Nordic ski destinations in Michigan. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Mirror Lake including Ge-Che Trails and Ski Brule.
