On the Upper Peninsula near Watersmeet, there are 40 miles of both groomed and ungroomed ski trails.
At the Sylvania Wilderness Area, there are 15 miles of ungroomed, unblazed trails spread between beginner and expert.
The trailhead is on CR535 off US 2 west of Watersmeet. To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from the intersection of US 45 and US 2 in Watersmeet, go west on US 2 for 4 miles. Turn left on Thousand Island Lake Rd and travel about 3.5 miles to parking on the left.
At the Sylvania Outfitters Area, there are 20 miles of groomed trails, predominantly beginner. These trails do connect with the Wilderness trails. The trailhead is located on US 2 west of Watersmeet.
While in the area, also check out the groomed Bond Falls Ski Trail (4.5 mi.) just north of Watersmeet on US45 near Paulding. Also, theres the Agonikak Trail running 11 miles south to the state line. The trailhead is at the Watersmeet Visitors Center.
Overall, Sylvania Trails is the 10th most popular cross country ski area of all 49 Nordic ski destinations in Michigan.
