South of Ironwood on the Upper Peninsula, the Active Backwoods Resort has 40km of groomed cross country ski trails for striders and skaters. The trails have many levels of difficulty and some run along the Montreal River. ABR is known for superior grooming and deep bases.

Overall, ABR Trails is the 1st most popular cross country ski area of all 49 Nordic ski destinations in Michigan.
