South of Ironwood on the Upper Peninsula, the Active Backwoods Resort has 75km of groomed cross country ski trails for striders and skaters. Spread over 1,100 acres, the trails have many levels of difficulty and some run along the Montreal River. ABR is known for superior grooming and deep bases.
Overall, ABR Trails is the 1st most popular cross country ski area of all 46 Nordic ski destinations in Michigan. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby ABR Trails including Mt. Zion Ski Area and Powderhorn Trails.
