North of Grand Rapids in the Suomi Hills Recreation Area, the Suomi Hills Trail is a 21 mile hilly cross country ski trek weaving through the backcountry among lakes. The route is through rugged, heavily timbered terrain with numerous lakes.

To reach thecross country skiing at the Southern Trailhead the intersection of US 2 and SR 38 in Grand Rapids, go north on SR 38 for 15 miles to a parking lot on the left.

Also, check out the 8 mile Rabideau Loop on the shores of Rabideau Lake off US71. Or ski on the 30 km Buena Vista Ski Trail. Theres over 90 km of groomed in the Bemidji region.

Overall, Suomi Hills Trail is the 6th most popular cross country ski area of all 39 Nordic ski destinations in Minnesota.
