Banadad Trail Cross Country Skiing

The 21st most popular XC Ski in Minnesota.

Located along the BWCA wilderness boundary, the 29 mile Banadad Trail is a cross country ski track through pristine boreal forest. The eastern trailhead is between Swamp Lake and Poplar Lake near the Poplar Creek Yurt and the Little Ollie Ski cabin. The BT runs west parallel to the Gunflint Trail past the Craft and Olga Yurts. The western trailhead is near the Gunflint Lodge. With so many trails at either ends and yurts along the way, it makes for a great over night adventure. Boundary Country Trekking can shuttle gear (800) 322-8327.

To reach the western trailhead at the junction of the Banadad Trail with the Gunflint Trail from the intersection of SR 61 and 5th Ave. in Grand Marais, go north on 5th Ave. for .4 miles. Continue straight as the road turns into CR 12 (Gunflint Trail.) Follow for 42 miles. The Banadad trail will be on the left (south) side of the road.

Overall, Banadad Trail is the 21st most popular cross country ski area of all 39 Nordic ski destinations in Minnesota.
