Located northwest of Ely in the Superior National Forest, the North Arm trail system has an extensive network of ski trails in variety of assorted loops.
To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from Ely, head north on the Echo Trail (CR116) for 11 miles. Turn left heading west on North Arm Road (CR644) for 4 miles to the trailhead parking area.
Overall, North Arm Trails is the 8th most popular cross country ski area of all 38 Nordic ski destinations in Minnesota. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby North Arm Trails including Bear Island - Lake Trail, Birch Lake Trail, Jasper Hills XC Ski Trail, Banadad Trail, Giants Ridge Resort and Laurentian Trail.
