Capulin Cross Country Ski Center

The 2nd most popular cross country ski area in New Mexico.

East of Albuquerque and north of Tijeras on the east side of Sandia Peak, the Capulin XC Ski Area has 14 miles of groomed nordic ski trails (call for up-to-date grooming schedule and current snow conditions). There are 18 trails overall in this region. The Cibola National Forest prints an excellent waterproof Cross-Country Ski Touring Map for the Upper Sandia Mountain area.

To reach Capulin from Albuquerque, head east on US40 to Exit 175 in Tijeras. Head north on SR536 for 15 miles. Note, chains and snow tires recommended -- the roads can be slick and/or snow covered. Parking may be limited, so plan to car pool.

Overall, Capulin Cross Country Ski Center is the 2nd most popular cross country ski area of all 12 Nordic ski destinations in New Mexico.
