Essex County Trails Cross Country Skiing

Near Lake Placid in Adirondack State Park, the Essex County area has several good cross country ski trails including the following. In the Vanderwacker Wild Forest, check out the skiing on the 9 mile Irishtown Snowmobile Trail. In the Saranac Lakes Wild Forest, try out the 6.5 mile Pine Pond Trail.
To reach the northern trailhead serving the Irishtown Trail from the intersection of Goodnow Rd. and SR 28N in Newcomb, go east on SR 28N for 5.2 miles. Turn left on CR 25 and go 1.3 miles. Go right on CR 2B and travel 4.2 miles. Parking is on the right. The road is just before Cheney Pond.
Overall, Essex County Trails is the 20th most popular cross country ski area of all 61 Nordic ski destinations in New York. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Essex County Trails including Mt. VanHovenberg Olympic Nordic Center, Five Ponds Wilderness, Cascade Cross Country Ski Center, Jack Rabbit XC Ski Trail and Whiteface Club Nordic Center.
