Tourathon Trails Cross Country Skiing

The 30th most popular XC Ski in New York.

North of Syracuse near Lacona, the Winona State Forest has over 70 miles of groomed multi-use trails on the Tug Hill Plateau, which is usually blanketed with lake-effect snow. These trails are in Winona Forest and Jefferson County Forest Preserve. On the first Saturday in February, the club hosts the 50 km classical Tug Hill Tourathon. Note, there are 15 miles of cross country skiing trails groom for only nordic skiing.

To get to the trailhead: From I81 S or N, take the Sandy Creek exit and head East. Go left at the T and then turn right on Center Rd. The trailhead is about 5 miles up the road at the junction of Center Rd. and Wart Rd.

Overall, Tourathon Trails is the 30th most popular cross country ski area of all 61 Nordic ski destinations in New York.
