The Catamount Trail is the longest back-country ski trail in North America. Its 300 miles link 21 different X-C ski centers from the southern border near Readsboro to the northern Canadian Border near North Troy. The Trail offers a unique back-country experience through the heart of Vermont. The level of difficulty ranges from easy touring to moderate hills to exciting telemark slopes. 47% of the Trail is ungroomed back-country, 30% is on snowmobile trails, 15% is through groomed touring center trails, and 8% is still in development.

Overall, Catamount Trail is the 5th most popular cross country ski area of all 29 Nordic ski destinations in Vermont.
