American Legion Cross Country Skiing

The 9th most popular XC Ski in Wisconsin.

The 220,000 acre Northern Highlands State Forest has 42 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails along the Razorback Ridge. The four beautifully tracked and wonderfully scenic ski trails include Escanaba Trail (11 miles), Madeline, McNaughton and Raven.

To reach the Escaamba Trailhead from the intersection of CR N and SR 155 in Sayner, go east/northeast on CR N for 5.8 miles. Turn left on CR K and go .5 mile. Turn left on State House Rd and go about .5 mile to trailhead. Dont turn into campground, continue straight to the trail.

Theres also 31 miles of backcountry trails including Lumberjack Trail and Powell Trail.

The best route is the 8 mile Long Rider Loop through deep maple, birch and pine forests. The trailhead is located two miles west of Sayner.

Overall, American Legion is the 9th most popular cross country ski area of all 37 Nordic ski destinations in Wisconsin.
