South of Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park, the ungroomed 6 mile Bunsen Peak Trail offers vistas over the Gardner River Canyon and the Gallatin Mountains. The cross country ski trail is located off the west side of the Mammoth-Norris Snow Vehicle Road just south of the Rustic Falls. After crossing the Bunsen Peak, the route descends steeply (950) along a twisting 2.5 mile route to Glen Creek. Continue another 0.5 miles to an access road which leads for a mile back to the parking area on Mammoth-Norris road.

Overall, Bunsen Peak Trail is the 17th most popular cross country ski area of all 26 Nordic ski destinations in Wyoming. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Bunsen Peak Trail including Snow Pass Trail, Bighorn Loop and Sheepeater Trail.
