Sand Mountain Cross Country Skiing

Northeast of Moscow and Potlach in the Clearwater National Forest, the 11 mile Sand Mountain Trail #330 runs through dryland pine forest and along ridges from FS292 to Moose Creek Reservoir.

To reach the cross-country skiing trailhead from the intersection of SR 8 and US 95 in Moscow, go north on US 95 for 16.5 miles to SR 6. Go east for 14 miles and turn right (east) onto NFD 447. This will be heading towards Laird Park. Go 1.9 miles to a right on NFD 292. The trail starts 1.3 miles further, it will be on the left.

Overall, Sand Mountain is the 17th most popular cross country ski area of all 43 Nordic ski destinations in Idaho. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Sand Mountain including Elk River Nordic Trails and Palouse Divide.
