Southeast of Eugene near Roseburg in the Umpqua National Forest, the Howlock Mountain Trail #1448 is a 7 mile climb over 2,000 feet through lodgepole pine and grassy meadows.
The cross country ski trailhead is on FS4795 off SR138 south of Roseburg.
To reach the Howlock Mountain Parking Area from the intersection of I-5 and SR 138 in Roseburg, go east on SR 138 for about 79 miles to Diamond Lake. Turn right on NFD 4795, parking is the first left.
Overall, Howlock Mountain Trail is the 9th most popular cross country ski area of all 23 Nordic ski destinations in Oregon. Several of the better cross country ski trails are nearby Howlock Mountain Trail including Mt. Thielsen Trail, Mt. Bailey Trail and North Crater Trail.
