Featured CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAILS
Near Fraser, the Devils Thumb ranch grooms 120 km of cross country skiing trails for classical and skate skiing running through pine forest and open meadows. The 13,000 feet peaks along the Continental Divide line the trails.
West of Denver near Winter Park, the Snow Mountain Ranch Nordic Center has 120km of groomed cross country ski trails spread over 5,200 acres. The nordic trails are above 9,000 feet ensuring good snow coverage.
East of Grand Junction and south of Mesa, the Grand Mesa Cross Country Ski Trail System has 45km of groomed trails maintained by the Grand Mesa Nordic Council. The Skyway X-C Ski Trails are 17km of groomed trais for skate and classic skiing. The County Line X-C Ski Trails are 17km partially groomed for skiing, snowshoes and dogs. The Ward Lake X-C Trails are 16km of moderately groomed and backcountry trails. The trail elevations range from 9,750 feet to 10,850 feet.
Southwest of Glenwood Springs, the Sunlight ski area has 29km of groomed ski trails through backcountry of aspen and pines. Also, there is over 50km of ungroomed cross country ski trails to explore.
North of Leadville at the Ski Cooper ski area, Piney Creek Nordic Center has 24km of groomed cross country ski trails all above 10,000 feet. The small ski area is located atop Tennessee Pass.
The Tenth Mountain Division Hut system is located in the mountains of Colorado between Aspen, Leadville, and Vail. Styled after the European tradition of hut-to-hut travel, 24 huts provide overnight shelter for seasoned backcountry skiers. Linked by over 300 miles of trails, the 10th Mountain Huts provide access to spectacular terrain.
West of Denver, the Gold Run Nordic Center has 27km of cross country ski trails. The Gold Run Nordic Center is located at the Breckenridge Golf Course and is operated by the town of Breckenridge. The trail system winds across and up historic Delaware Flats and Gold Run valley, at the mouth of the Swan River north of Breckenridge.
Northwest of Gunnison and west of Crested Butte, the Lily Lake Nordic Trail System is a 10km trail network for cross country skiing. During the month of November, the Crested Butte Nordic Center grooms the trail network for classical and skate skiing under a special use permit from the Gunnison National Forest.
Southeast of Steamboat Springs, the Lake Catamount Touring Center at Catamount Ranch has 30km of cross country skiing trails. The trail system is within a private development and is known for its rolling routes with wide open views.
