Near Davis in the Allegheny Mountains, the Canaan Valley area supports several excellent cross-country ski trail systems. The Canaan Valley Resort provides a base for exploring 30 km of trails winding through the forest.
Southeast of Morgantown near Terra Alta, the Alpine Lake ski area has 15km of cross-country ski trails. There are 9km of nordic trails that are groomed for skate and classical skiing.
East of Morgantown, the 12,700 acre Coopersrock State Forest has 5 miles of cross-country ski loops. The rides run through dense, rolling forests with rhododendron and mountain laurel.
South of Davis in the Canaan Valley, the White Grass Touring Center has 50 km of cross country skiing trails with 25km groomed over 2,500 acres within the Cable Mountain Range.
