North of Colchester in McDonough County, the Argyle Lake State Park has designated snowmobiling trails and unplowed roads totaling 8 miles are available for snowmobiling from sunrise to 10 p.m. Parking facilities, toilets and picnic shelters are available at the site. The snowmobile trails wind through scenic oak-hickory timber and pine trees that cover rolling terrain and steep hillsides.

The snowmobiling at Argyle Lake State Park is located 2 miles north of Colchester. From Chicago, take either Interstate 80 or Interstate 88 west to Interstate 74. Take Interstate 74 South to Route 34. Take Route 34 West to Route 67. Take Route 67 South to Route 136. Take Route 136 West to Colchester and the park is 2 miles north of Colchester on Coal Road. Coal Road runs north of the Shell Station in Colchester.

While snowmobiling Argyle Lake State Park, all snowmobiles must display a valid State of Illinois snowmobile registration sticker. This is required by both residents and non-residents.
