Northwest of Edmonton near Swan Hills, there are hundreds of miles of trails maintained by the Swan Hills Snow-Goers Club. The Swan Hills Snowmobile Trails include the Krause Lake Snowmobile Area, the Forestry Trail Sytem, the Trans-Canada snow-route and the Golden Triangle Trail System.
Most of the snowmobile trail systems can be accessed right from the town of Swan Hills and you can ride right from the local motels. There are also plenty of unmarked trails up in the Goose Mountain area, the Deer Mountain area and in the Virginia Hills.
In Swan Hills, there are snowmobile-staging areas located at the Tourist Information Booth on Highway 33 as well as at Krause Lake. The Krause Lake trail system not only includes miles of boreal forest, but also takes snowmobilers past the historic Trapper Leas Cabin which also acts as an alternate staging area south of the town for people traveling on Highway 33.
Overall, Swan is the 7th most popular snowmobile trail of all 47 snowmobiling rides in Alberta. Several of the better snowmobile trails are nearby Swan including Edson, Fort McMurray, Fort Saskatchewan, Grande Prairie, Athabasca and Bonnyville.
