South of St. Marys, the Elk State Forest has plenty of snowmobile trails. One of the better trailheads is at the District Office in Emporium.

To reach the Emporium trailhead from the intersection of SR 120 and Broad Street in Emporium, go east on SR120 for 1 mile. Turn left (north) on SR 155 and go .65 mile to right on Midland Rd. (Prospect Park.) Go straight to parking area.

Note: on the trail map, the solid line shows routes shared by snowmobiles and motor vehicles. The dotted line shows snowmobile only routes.

While snowmobiling Elk State Forest, all snowmobiles must have a valid registration with the Pennsylvania Department Of Conservation And Natural Resources. The registration can be obtained from the PA DOC directly or through one of 1,000 dealers in the state.
