South of St. Paul near Pine Island, the Douglas State Trail is a 13 mile snowmobile route from Rochester to Pine Island.

To reach the Rochester snowmobiling trailhead for Douglas State Trail from US Hwy 52, take the CSAH 22 (55th Street) exit; the west and south on CSAH 22 approximately 2 miles to Olmstead Couny Road 4; then east .3 miles to the trailhead.

Overall, Douglas State Trail is the 6th most popular snowmobile trail of all 38 snowmobiling rides in Minnesota. Several of the better snowmobile trails are nearby Douglas State Trail including Glacial Lakes State Trail, Luce Line State Trail, Minnesota Valley State Trail and Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail.
