North of Brainerd near Walker, the Heartland State Trail is a 49 mile snowmobile route from Park Rapids through Walker to Cass Lake. It connects with the Paul Bunyan State Trail near Walker.

The snowmobile parking for the Heartland State Trail is in the Heartland Park. It is located 1 block south and 2 blocks east of the intersection of SR 34 and US 71 in Park Rapids.

Overall, Heartland State Trail is the 15th most popular snowmobile trail of all 38 snowmobiling rides in Minnesota. Several of the better snowmobile trails are nearby Heartland State Trail including Paul Bunyan State Trail and Pillsbury State Forest.
