Southwest of St. Paul near Shakopee, the Minnesota Valley State Trail has a 19 mile section open to snowmobiles from Ft. Snelling to Shakopee along the Minnesota River.

Overall, Minnesota Valley State Trail is the 3rd most popular snowmobile trail of all 38 snowmobiling rides in Minnesota. Several of the better snowmobile trails are nearby Minnesota Valley State Trail including Douglas State Trail, Glacial Lakes State Trail, Luce Line State Trail and Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail.
