North of Brainerd, the Paul Bunyan State Trail is a 100 mile snowmobile route from Brainard through Hackensak to Bemidji. Also, check out the nearby Lighted Lakes Trail that is also open to snowmobiling.

The Gull Lake area makes a great base for exploring these snowmobile trails.

Overall, Paul Bunyan State Trail is the 9th most popular snowmobile trail of all 38 snowmobiling rides in Minnesota. Several of the better snowmobile trails are nearby Paul Bunyan State Trail including Heartland State Trail and Pillsbury State Forest.
