Southwest of Duluth, the Willard Munger State Trail has two sections open to snowmobiling. The Boundary Segment is an 80 mile stretch. The Fire Segment is a 63 mile route from Duluth southwest to Hinckley.

To reach the Duluth snowmobiling trailhead for the Willard Munger State Trail from the intersection of I-35 and SR 23 (Grand Avenue) in West Duluth, go south on SR 23 (Grand Avenue.) Travel 1.3 miles to a left on North 75th Avenue W. Look for parking.

Overall, Willard Munger State Trail is the 3rd most popular snowmobile trail of all 38 snowmobiling rides in Minnesota. Several of the better snowmobile trails are nearby Willard Munger State Trail including St Croix State Forest, Fond Du Lac State Forest, McCarthy Beach State Park, North Shore State Trail and Duluth.
