West of Ithaca and Watkins Glen in Schuyler County, the 9,000 acre Sugar Hill State Forest has 40 miles of trails for snowmobilers. A portion of the Finger Lakes Trail also passes through the forest.

The best winter snowmobiling trailhead in Sugar Hill State Forest is on CR23 halfway between Watkins Glen and Tyrone near a rustic sign. If you can find it, theres also parking at the Sugar Hill Fire Tower.

When snowmobiling Sugar Hill State Forest, all snowmobiles must have a New York State snowmobile registration unless you are riding on your own private property.
