North of Butte in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, the Elk Park area has 52 miles of groomed snowmobile trails. The Elk Park Trail System has a 52 mile loop through the Lowlands and Lockhart areas with groomed family trails and some open play areas. This loop connects with the Deer Lodge Trail system for extending riding areas.

To reach the trailhead from Butte, head north on US15 to the Elk Park Exit. Head west on Lowland Road (#442) for 2 miles to the Konda Ranch Parking Area.

Overall, Elk Park is the 22nd most popular snowmobile trail of all 33 snowmobiling rides in Montana. Several of the better snowmobile trails are nearby Elk Park including Red Lion - Georgetown Lake, Deer Lodge, Bloody Dick Trail, Schultz - Johnson Trail, Stewart Meadows Complex and Twin Lakes.
