Southeast of Bangor and west of Hampden, there is a 37 mile snowmobile trail system maintained by the Goodwill Riders Snowmobile Club. The Hampden snowmobile trails interconnect the communities of Winterport, Bangor, Hermon and Newburgh. The main north-south snowmobile routes in the area are ITS84 and ITS82.
For snowmobiling near Hampden and the rest of state, all riders, resident and non-resident alike, must register their snowmobiles in Maine to ride in Maine. Most of the registration money goes to the Snowmobile Trail Fund of the Department of Conservation. Registration information is available at (207) 287-2043. After registration, make sure to read the Maine Snowmobile Law Book. Note: it is illegal to ride ATVs on designated snowmobile trails.
Overall, Hampden is the 21st most popular snowmobile trail of all 25 snowmobiling rides in Maine. Several of the better snowmobile trails are nearby Hampden including Bangor, Glenburn Lake, Hermon, Newport To Dover Rail Trail and South Lagrange To Medford Trail.
