Northeast of Portland, the Bangor snowmobile trail network has a total of 70 miles of groomed routes. The Bangor snowmobiling trails located east of town are maintained by the Eastern Maine Snowmobilers Club.

The main trails near Bangor are ITS82 to the south, ITS84 to the east and west, and ITS107 to the east. There is a trailhead access point near Hermon Pond Park.

For snowmobiling near Bangor and the rest of state, all riders, resident and non-resident alike, must register their snowmobiles in Maine to ride in Maine. Most of the registration money goes to the Snowmobile Trail Fund of the Department of Conservation. Registration information is available at (207) 287-2043. After registration, make sure to read the Maine Snowmobile Law Book. Note: it is illegal to ride ATVs on designated snowmobile trails.

Overall, Bangor is the 16th most popular snowmobile trail of all 25 snowmobiling rides in Maine. Several of the better snowmobile trails are nearby Bangor including Hermon, Newport To Dover Rail Trail, South Lagrange To Medford Trail, Hampden and Glenburn Lake.
