North of Elko, the Wild Horse Reservoir, Gold Creek and Merrit Mountain (elev. 8,792 feet) areas offer miles and miles of open snowmobiling country. About 65 miles north of Elko, snowmobile riders exploring the Wild Horse Reservoir, Gold Creek and Merrit Mountain area will discover more terrain to explore than any single visit can exploit.

To reach the trailhead from Elko, head north on SR225 for 65 miles. Park at the intersection of SR 225 and NFD 037. This is where the trail starts. It is on the east side of Wild Horse Reservoir.

Overall, Wild Horse / Gold Creek is the 3rd most popular snowmobile trail of all 6 snowmobiling rides in Nevada.
