South of the town of Big Timber in the Gallatin National Forest, there are 34 miles of groomed snowmobile trails. There are two trails.

The 25-mile Boulder Canyon Trail takes snowmobilers to bowls, meadows and the abondoned mining town of Independence. The upper seven miles are moderate to difficult. The route runs through the scenic Boulder River Valley.

The 9 mile East Boulder-Dry Fork Trail is shorter and easier, and has extensive play areas.

Overall, Big Timber is the 28th most popular snowmobile trail of all 33 snowmobiling rides in Montana.
