East of Barre, the Groton State Forest has miles of snowmobile routes.

Note: To snowmobile in Groton State Forest, the snowmobile must have a legal registration in any US state or Canadian Province (proof of registration is required), otherwise a Vermont registration can be purchased from the Vermont DMV or licensed registration agents for a nominal fee (~$20). In addition, to ride in Vermont, a VAST TMA decal must be purchase and displayed on the snowmobile. These can be purchased from a VAST club for around $100 along with the additional $100 club membership fee.

Overall, Groton State Forest is the 11th most popular snowmobile trail of all 17 snowmobiling rides in Vermont.
