West of Albany, the Schoharie County area has an extenstive network of maintained snowmobile trails. A central portion of this trail system is maintained by the Summit Sno Riders snowmobile club.

To reach the central snowmobiling trailhead for Schoharie County from US88, use Exit #20 for Richmondvill. At the first light, follow SR10 south for 4 miles to the town of Summit. Near the top of the mountain, there is a large pull-off for general parking at the intersection with corridor trail #7C.

When snowmobiling Schoharie County, all snowmobiles must have a New York State snowmobile registration unless you are riding on your own private property.

Overall, Schoharie County is the 30th most popular snowmobile trail of all 49 snowmobiling rides in New York. Several of the better snowmobile trails are nearby Schoharie County including John Boyd Thacher State Park, Bear Springs Mountain Trail System, Fulton County, Herkimer County, Otsego County and Montgomery County.
